Volumetric and Billable Weight Calculator

Different couriers and freight companies use different methods to calculate shipment weight for billing. Our Dimensional Weight Calculator helps you figure out the dimensional and chargeable weight used in transport quotes — so you can budget more accurately for your landed cost.

To use the calculator, you’ll need:

  • Your parcel’s dimensions (in centimetres)

  • Actual Weight (in kilograms)

Simply enter your details into the calculator, and it will show you the dimensional weight. Carriers compare this value with the actual weight and use the higher of the two as your chargeable weight — the amount you'll be billed for.

Calculations can be complex — let us simplify them. Contact us today for a full explanation of your logistics volumetric and billable weights.

Why is volumetric weight charged?

Larger items occupy more space on a vehicle or aircraft, which increases shipping costs. When an item is bulky but lightweight, charges are typically calculated based on its dimensions rather than its actual weight.

Determine volumetric weight for freight shipping

Most road freight carriers, air freight services, and airlines apply a 6,000 divisor when calculating volumetric weight. To find the volumetric weight of your shipment, multiply the length, width, and height (in cm), then divide the result by 6,000.
